Australian Capital Territory and Canberra | |||
|
The Australian Capital Territory is located within south eastern New South Wales and 46% is national park. It experiences hot, dry summers and cold winters with mountains in the Namadgi National Park generally capped with snow. The ACT is 2,358sqkms in size and has one major city which is Canberra, Australia's capital. Canberra is a planned city with significant areas of natural vegetation and its layout is based on the three peaks surrounding the city, Mount Ainslie, Black Mountain, and Red Hill. The design incorporates three axes, where roads are in a wheel and spoke pattern, that form what is known as the Parliamentary Triangle. This area contains some of Australia's most significant buildings including the old and new Parliament Houses.
